Writer, poet, lyricist and Saatchi-shortlisted artist and photographer Geoff Francis
provided the overall vision for updating his Edwardian town-house, to which his wife and business manager Jacky then contributed. The 5 bedroom house is in the sought after seaside town of Swanage, Dorset, and is the place which Geoff feels has allowed him the most complete expression of himself as an artist.
The integrated theme for the house is to honour its eleven decade story. Visually, each floor is tied together by celebratory seaside blues and whites.
People love it, and spend as much time examining the art and furniture as the house. No such thing as a short visit!
Great care was taken to preserve the many original features, and to sensitively overlay the period feel of the house with artist-designed interiors using bespoke hand-mixed paint, creatively hand-painted walls and glass finials to the stair newel posts.
Most rooms feature original stripped wood floors, and the colonial-inspired vintage carpet has been retained on the stairs and landings. A retro 1950s lino was discovered under the carpet in Geoff’s studio on the top floor.
The decor is complemented by Geoff’s original art and award-winning photography, artist-customised furniture and period additions such as original Art Deco glass lampshades.
All of our interior pieces are upcycled, ‘found objects’ or recycled. We enjoy the search for original and interesting items, which Geoff might then upcycle to become an abstract piece of art, as well as an item of furniture.
Geoff feels most proud of the Mondrian-inspired garden cloakroom. It is both quirky, functional ... and a haven for the man in the family.
